The kindergarten of today is no longer about fingerpainting and singing songs....there is actual homework and even some projects involved! So when my son started Kindergarten, I took him to L.L. Bean to buy a good quality backpack. I knew that this backpack would need to withstand lots of abuse, so I didn't mind spending $40 on it. My son chose a deep blue....a great color to hide the grime! This backpack features a wide reflective accent on the front and straps for safety, plus ergonomic shoulder straps and a waistbelt for comfort. The backpack has two main zippered compartments, plus two smaller zippered sections for supplies, etc. The backpacks dimensions are: 17"H x 13"W x 9½"D.
With all these convenient features, plus L.L. Bean's wonderful product guarantee, I knew this backpack was the perfect choice to get my son through his first "real" school experience. What I didn't know was that this same backpack would accompany my son to first and second grades as well...looking every bit as tidy and organized as it had the day we bought it.
As the new school year gets closer, my son and I have decided to retire the blue backpack that has served him so well. Not because it's worn out, but because my son wants a new one. We'll be heading to L.L. Bean for this new backpack....lucky for us my son can choose from the 15 other colors this backpack is available in.

I know what you mean Kindergarden and grade one was the worst years for homework. You really do need a fair size backpack for these grades and then again in high school.
I love LL Bean for so many things and this backpack is one of them. They can travel from school to the beach and back home again and still look brand new.
