Upon receiving a LL Bean gift card for my birthday last year, I was very excited. Excited because I had been wanting to purchase this ice cream ball for ages, and finally I was going to get it.Not once while we have used it has it come apart while tossing! Great product! I love LL Bean!
It does indeed make ice cream, Its good for older kids because they can throw the ball around and watch the ice cream being formed. It's good for me too, because it amused me! It could tend to be cold on your hands, so you might be encouraged to toss it to the next person. Mittens are hard to come by at camping season. It comes in array of colors, and people are always shocked to see it worked! A very fun activity for the cabin, I love it - It's a family favorite!
It is good for a campfire, but more a cabin - you just often don't have the ingredients that it takes at your everyday campsite. It requires ice, the flavoring, rock salt, and ice cream ingredients, you than toss it around and 30-40 minutes later you have a quart of ice cream! The flavors available are pretty tasty too!
I often add in some extra ingredients like fruit or candy to make it more interesting!

This looks like such a fun product! The kids always got tired of cranking the bucket before the ice cream was done, but this way they just play, and at the end there is ice cream!

We have one of these too. It is GREAT! And so much easier than the old fashioned cranking thing.
