Locking Gas Cap By Kakoa on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Lately my husband and I had our trucks messed with at night. We called the police to make a report and found out that a guy down the street had his car messed with too. Actually his gas was siphoned out twice in two weeks! Although we didn't have our gas taken, we decided not to take any chances. We bought these locking gas caps and put them on the next day.
Instillation was fast and easy. My husband put them both on for us, but all he had to do was take the old cap off and put this one in. There are different types you can get, but our trucks have a threaded turning style cap so we had to get that style.
Each cap comes with two keys. Both keys are engraved with the word "fuel" so you can tell them apart from all your other small keys.
It's easy enough to use the cap, but it is a little annoying. I'm so used to just unscrewing the cap with one hand and letting the cap hang though. Now, I have to use one hand to turn the key and the other hand to unscrew the cap. The cap is not attached to the truck at all, so I have to hold it with my keys in it while the gas is pumping. No real big deal, but it's different. To put it back on, you have to put it in, turn the key, and then twist the cap until it clicks.
I'm glad we got these caps because I have been hearing more and more people getting their gas siphoned at night. $15 is definitely a good deal when it comes to protecting your gas at the price it's at these days!
Stant Threaded Locking Gas Cap Purchased at: Ace Hardware Price: $15

Its too bad when we have to do this, but with the cost of gas what can we do.
Bless your heart--I'm glad you were able to get something to keep your gasoline secure.
This seems like a really great idea, especially with the economy in the ground right now.
Unfortunately we cannot use these around here as gas thieves go underneath the vehicle with a bucket and stick a knife up through the actual gas tank. This way they can drain an entire tank in seconds and get away fast... It ends up costing the vehicle owner oodles of money to replace the tank and the gas. It is totally nuts!
Oh! If you are parking on the street or somewhere where you can put up a security cam, you might want to do that so if your truck does get struck again you may be able to make an identification through the film.
I work as a 911 dispatcher and we have been getting a few calls for people stealing gas lately. I think this is a great idea. I need to invest in this product and there is an Ace right down the street
Good investment. Thanks for the info on these
I had to buy one a few years ago because someone was siphoning gas from my car right out of my drive way!
