Madonna Grows Up With Like A Prayer By nightwing on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

This disc surprised a lot of people (especially critics) when it was released and is considered a highlight in Madonna's career. In this CD she took a confessional tone to songwriting and really displayed a maturing in her sound.

There are lots of great hit singles that most people are probably familiar with, but it is the album cuts that really stand out for me. Promise to Try is a ballad about her late mother that sounds really honest and raw. Love Song is a funky duet between her and Prince. While the song is not that strong, it is worth listening just to hear these two singing to one another. Till Death do us Part is a dance song about an abusive relationship! While that may sound weird, it really works and it is quite haunting.

I would say this is Madonna's best album. To me there are no bad tracks here. Some are great, and some are very good, but none are bad.
