Madonna Hits A Bump In The Road With Erotica Cd By nightwing on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

With the release of this disc in the early nineties, Madonna was seen as having gone "too far" and a backlash ensued. This disc was marketed as being all about sex, which isn't completely accurate. I think that if the disc had been marketed differently it would have been much better received.

While there are a handful of sex-related songs here, the majority don't go down the road. And those songs, they are really quite good. The ballad Rain is beautiful, and the dance song Deeper and Deeper is fun. Bad Girl is a dark ballad (made even better by the great music video that accompanied it).

With both Erotica and Waiting, Madonna performs the songs as basically talking over a beat and the results are quite good and interesting.

There are a few bad songs here. Where Life Begins is basically an x-rated song that is dumb and boring. I don't have anything positive to say about that song. In This Life is a song about AIDS that doesn't really seem to have any heart in it.

In all, this is a good CD. It's a disc that takes a lot of chances. Some of them work and some do not, but they are worth listening to.
