This is sort of a transitional disc for Madonna. After the public beating that she took for last album, Erotica, she seems a bit unsure of herself on this disc. The album features a handful of different producers and different sounds.

Some of the songs bring an old r&b feel, while others have a bit of a modern trance sound. One of the biggest hits of her career, Take a Bow, is a highlight here. It is a nice ballad featuring backup vocals by the songs cowriter and producer, Babyface. Human Nature has a nice funky feel while Secret is a fun dance song.

The best songs here are the ones that are more modern sounding and give a glimpse of what her next album, Ray of Light, would sound like. Bedtime Story is a great song (and one of her best videos) that was written by Bjork. While Sanctuary would have felt just at home on her Ray of Light disc.

A couple of the songs don't really go anywhere. Survival, Don't Stop, and I'd Rather Be Your Lover pretty much just sound like album filler. Decent enough songs, but nothing that stands out.

This is an okay album. It has some great tunes but too much filler and the songs don't really flow together.
