Magic Jellies By Chris Kong on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

Tried this at one of the playschool nearby. It comes with 4 test tubes, a test tube holder, tub tints, petri dishes, a pipette, plastic cups, plastic bags, a small bag of sunflower seeds, some dry peas, lots of colourful jelly crystals and even vegetable oil. Basically it is teaching younger kids how to grow plants without soil, by using those colourful jellies. Besides teaching growth in plants, it can also be used to teach density of different colourful liquids.

It does generate a lot of woos and ahhhs from the children especially when they see for themselves how the sunflower and the pea seeds slowly grow into beautiful plants in those colourful jellies! It is a real hands on experience for the kids.

Pros: The jellies are non toxic so they are safe for the kids to feel and touch. The booklet that comes with the set also have questions for kids to learn as they play with it. The best thing about those jelly crystals is they can be used over and over again. To keep them after using, we just need to dehydrate them and they will all come back to their original shape and colour again.

Additional thoughts: While asking the kids about this toy, they all say they love it and enjoy playing with it. That truly serves the purpose of science toys.
