Magnetix Teaches Or Amuses? By April on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

My daughter is an artist. She loves to draw and construct different types of characters out of any materials. Recently she developed an interest in building. So we looked into building toys, and passed on the usual legos, duplos and lincoln logs to find Magnetix, a magentic building set. We bought the 150-piece set to give her a real feel for what it was. This is what I found out about Magnetix.

While it is a fun toy to build shapes, such as spheres and three dimensional squares and triangles, you can also buy more sets to build up to more intricate designs. The contents include magnetic bars and little magnets that are shaped like marbles. You can also buy different sets that will give you curves or longer bars to build what you want. The concept takes a child past the lego stage to really put their fine motor skills to use. My only complaint is the sets come with too many magnetic balls compared to the magnetic bars. Obviously a way to force a parent to buy more add-on sets!

Overall, the product is a good product. It has some teaching value while it also lets a child explore their creative side for play.

Sneaky way to make you have to buy more supplies to finish projects they build. Oh well, at least your child has fun with this building toy and that after all is the reason you bought it!
