Reviewing: Malibu Solar Lighting
Purchased at: Wal Mart     Price: $11.97 USD

In an effort to improve our home landscaping, we decided to replace our electric landscape lights with solar powered lighting.Going green, so to speak. We purchased a four pack set of Solar lights manufactured by Malibu.

There are many styles and number of lamp kits available. We opted for the pagoda style with amber lighting because they seemed to go with our home's style. You have choices from amber to white light, hanging, up-light, lantern, square, and so on--you are not limited with this manufacturer.

We felt the price was incredibly low and were worried about quality when we found that the kit included the lamps, bulbs, and batteries--everything you need to set them up.The quality is comparable to the electric light kit we replaced, which we had paid over $30 dollars for a few years back.Best part, there was no wiring involved.

The lights are so easy to install you do not need to look at the instructions. They are not flimsy. The amber bulb is bright enough to light a 4 ft diameter ring around their placement. The lights have a sensor so they come on automatically. The only drawback we have found is the rechargeable battery only seems to last for four hours.(Actually, that length of time is pretty good.)

Since the lights turn on at sundown and shut off 4 hours later you are in darkness by midnight. If you have late nights or are up before dawn you will need another light source.

All things considered, these lights are a good investment, easy on the wallet, and easy on the energy bill.

I have considered buying these for my sidewalk leading up to my house. I think i want to get some that last longer than 4 hours though. I work nights so I like a well lit walkway when coming and going! Glad you added that little part in!

I don't understand why they need a battery if they are solar. Usually solar ones just come on by themselves when it gets dark and last 4-6 hours.

The sun charges the rechargeable battery, I guess that's why they call them solar. I wonder if there are others out there that don't require a battery? I'll have to look into that because replacing the batteries will be expensive when the time comes.

I love the look of solar lights! I know that our's have batteries in them but our's last a good six hours when it is pitch black...you just can't beat the price of these-they have really come down in price since they came out a few years back!

I too got one of this solar lamp but I found that they do light up at night but the lights are a bit too dim.

That's been my bug with solar lighting, the batteries just don't last long enough.
