Mamma Mia DVD - A Fun Movie

My husband gave me some great DVDs for Christmas, and one of them was the movie Mamma Mia.Mamma Mia is the story of Donna and her 20 year old daughter, Sophie.Sophie is getting married, but she doesn't know who her father is and would like to find out.She reads her mother's diary and learns of three men who could be her father, and without her mother knowing, she invites all three to her wedding.

The movie is based on the songs of the pop group, Abba, and I enjoy Abba's music so I enjoyed the movie.I have to admit that if Abba's songs hadn't been in the movie, I don't know if I would have liked it as much, but I feel that the music made the movie.

Mamma Mia stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgard, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper, Amanda Seyfried, and Christine Baranski.The cast did their own singing, whether they could sing or not, and I give them all an A for effort.I thought Meryl Streep sang pretty well, but she wasn't the choice I would have made for that particular role.She was good, but she laid it on a little thick during some of the singing numbers.

The scenery, a Greek island, was absolutely beautiful, and there are some really good dance routines along with the lively, upbeat music of Abba.I really liked the movie.My husband started watching it with me but decided to take a nap instead because it was a "chick flick".The DVD does contain some bonus features, the best being on-screen lyrics for 22 musical numbers.

If you like Abba's music, you would most likely enjoy Mamma Mia.The movie is fun, fast and lively.
