manual treadmill...great workout!
By cukal6 onTwo years ago I found out my cholesterol was high and I needed to start some exercising to get it down.I live 30 minutes from the gym and knew I wouldn't stick with that, so we went treadmill shopping. Not only are treadmills expensive, but they are huge.
So, when we found the Cardio Stride PLus, I thought it was perfect. It's small enough to fit in the corner of the room, and it was only $100.Much to my surprise, it's also a much more effective workout than a regular treadmill. Because it's a manual treadmill, you have to work twice as hard to get the belt moving. The first week I was on it, I could only walk for 5 minutes at a time.My husband made fun of me until he got on it and realized he couldn't walk very far either.
Even now that I run a couple of miles a day, this treadmill still kicks my butt.I only have a few complaints. You can not change the incline. It's at a very small incline but I really would like to option to rise or lower it.The only other complaint I have is about the monitor that came with it.I don't think it reads speed, mileage, or calories burnt very accurately. It also resets every couple of months for some reason. It didn't say anything about that in the book.
WE have used this treadmill for 2 years now and my husband continues to use it every day. It's a great workout for a fraction of the cost of regular treadmills.

What a great price! I've never seen these. I will definately have to give it a closer look! I am looking for a small exercise machine that I will actually use...I don't need another clothes hanger:0)
This is amazing. We were in a store today and noticed that these machines run about $1200 and up. Some guy was wheeling one out to his van- wow... I've got better uses for 1200 bucks! This sounds like a reasonable option.
I just found out last month that my cholestorol is high too and I need to work out more. I never knew there was a manual treadmill, thanks for the information.
I definitely like the automatic incline on a treadmill.
Sounds like it would be perfect for someone who's not too sure if they will use it or not. The price is reasonable enough.
Great information on both pros and cons of the machine
That really is a terrific price. It seems like that is the best way to go when you need a machine but don't want to spend a ton just in case it isn't the one for you. I also think that I would use something in my house more than a gym. Sounds like you are doing a great job improving your health!
for a $100 treadmill it sounds like you got a good deal :)
My Mom had a manual operated treadmill too, it is twice the workout.I am glad you liked yours.
I agree that manual treadmills can give quite the workout! Walking is a GREAT way to lower LDL (or as I call it - Lousy Cholesterol!). I would suggest people check out their local online freecycling groups where people often give away treadmills to clear out space in their homes. Check freesharing.org shringisgiving.org
