Mary Poppins is a Broadway musical based on the classic Disney film. It is playing at the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. It is slightly different from the movie, but I think it is just as wonderful and fans of the movie will still love it.
It is hard to forget Julie Andrews' practically perfect performance as Mary Poppins in the film. But on Broadway, actress Ashley Brown takes on the role, and does a terrific job. It's good that she does not try to copy Julie Andrews. She brings a new, fresh take on Mary Poppins.
The unforgettable songs from the movie still remain in the show, plus some new ones that are just as great. It is really a magical show with some amazing special effects and scenery. Of course Mary Poppins has to fly, and it's wonderful to see it happen right in front of you.
I had a great time seeing Mary Poppins on Broadway, and I think any fans of the movie will love it too.
