Maybank Premier Checking By poshpost on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

I have opened a Premier checking account with a local branch of Maybank. The service combines a checking account, a passbook, and an ATM card. I think it is pretty good. The opening and maintaining balance though is pretty steep at P20,000 which is roughly $500. That is pretty big in our currency.

Anyway, service is pretty good, except that sometimes there are employees who are not very accommodating. AT machine is available most of the time, but the problem is you have to withdraw P500 as the minimum. Most of the time, I overspend because of this. In other banks, you can withdraw a minimum of P100.

Their checking account service is pretty fast and I like my checkbook because it is yellow (the national color of Malaysia where Maybank came from).

Interest rates though is very low, I think 75% of 1 percent and is compounded every 3 months.

All in all, Maybank Premier Account is pretty good.

You have to havethe minimum of $500 to open & keep an account, is that correct?

If it is combined checking and savings account, 20000 pesos maintaining balance is reasonable. Mine in other bank is 25000.

This is very helpful. Now I know how's Maybank doing when it comes to customer service. Plus I was stunned to see that the maintaining balance is Php20,000! In other banks, they require only Php5,000 to Php10,000 maintaining balance.
