Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary By Karen on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

My husband has the tenth edition of Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary. This is a nice, thick dictionary (1529 pages) with a little bit of everything.

The tenth edition has the usual definitions of words, showing pronunciation. It also contains a guide to pronunciation, explanatory notes on how to use the dictionary, an extensive listing of abbreviations, biographical names, geographical names, and signs and symbols. There are illustrations scattered throughout the dictionary depicting some of the words being defined. There are finger tab indentations on the side of the book for the letters of the alphabet to help you find the word you are trying to define. Each definition shows the word broken into syllables, the pronunciation, part of speech, and, of course, definition.

This is a great dictionary. It has been of great use to me when I needed to check the spelling of a word or needed to find the definition. It is a hardback book, though you can get dictionaries in paperback as well.

You can't go wrong with a Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.
