Metal Gate Keeps Our Dog Out Of Trouble! By Alice on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
We own an Austratlian Shepherd and she just turned 15 years old. It seems the older she gets the wiser she becomes. After years of having a standard child's type gate to keep her secure in the family room while we were not home, she all of a sudden learned to pull at the gate with her paws until she had an opening large enough to get through. When we purchased one that was permanently mounted and could not be moved, she all of a sudden learned to get over the top of it and when we would come home she would be greeting us with slobber all over the front picture window. We shopped around and found this powder coated metal white extendible gate which came with an optional top extension (best purchase) at Petsmart and so far so good. Unless our Sasha can suddenly turn into superdog and leap over tall buildings, we should be good for a while. She is getting older so we want to keep her safe while we are not at home. This gate fit into our 34" opening and can go as wide as 41-1/2". Check out Petsmart in your area as they did seem to have the best selection.
Petsmart Extendible Metal Gate Purchased at: Petsmart Price: $85.00 for gate plus top ext.

Thank you for sharing this with us. We have 5 dogs now- 3 Puppies that are 5 months old. I guess we didn't think about when we weren't home. We have baby gates, cots all over the place but they still seem to find a way. Thanks again for the information.
we have an australian cattle dog-a relative of the shepherd! if our floorplan wasn't so open, i would definitely be buying one of these-our dog has some good jump to her!
Sounds like a necessary item for people with pets. Thanks for sharing the information.
A top extender! Finally someone is thinking!! I can't tell you how many times I have tried to gate an area off, only to have one of the dogs simply jump it like a low hurdle! Thanks for the information!!
My mom has an escape artist. He's an Irish Wolfhound which if you aren't familiar are incredible tall. They could step over a standard gate. I'll have to pass this info on to her so she can check it out.
Perfect! I have a Dutch Shepherd that gets through anything we put in his way. I have had trouble finding one that will fit the doorway into the kitchen but this should work.
I have three dachshunds pups, and they get into everything. I have purchased a crate and a few pen enclosures at Petsmart to keep them safe when we are away from home or just need to keep them in an enclosed area for a while. They work out very well.
These are good gates to keep animals at hand while in the house.
