Michigan State Spartan Weathervane
By Alice onIf there are three words that are sacred in our house they are Disney, Golf and Michigan State. My husband is a diehard MSU fan and both of our daughters are alumni. It would only be appropriate that our house and garden have MSU items scattered about.
I purchased this Michigan State Weathervane at a local craft show some years ago and it has had a spot of honor in a back garden right outside our kitchen window. This is not a rooftop weathervane as you would normally think of but this is made to be put in your garden, lawn, or deck.
This is an actual working weathervane. It has wind cups and the N, S, W, E indicators for directions. The top part is the famous Spartan Helmet, it has the letters MSU on the arrow and then a large "S" cutout in the feather part on the back. This weathervane is made of 14 gauge solid steel that has been powder coated with a textured coppery colored finish.Powder coating means the color is baked on, something I actually knew about as my employer goes through this process with some items that we sell.
This piece is very well made and the wind cups spin along without a sound. It came with a 5 ft. garden stake which is pushed into the ground and then the top unit slips onto that.We do keep this out most of the year except at Christmas when we replace it with a Santa top that I purchased from the same craftsperson. It has held up extremely well with only a few little spots from age.If we only put it out in the summer it would probably be better but I wouldn't dare ask my Spartan husband to do that!!

Go Ohio! Oh sorry, we love Michigan too. This is a great outdoor item and I think it would be better to just put it out in the summer too. It will last longer, but then again your hubby wouldn't be able to see it!
Looks great! I'd buy one too if I could find one with my college logo on it... :)
Great weathervane, especially with 3 Michigan State fans in the house.
That is awesome! I had a MSU mug that I brought with me in '89 when I moved from Michigan to Georgia. I miss it, it broke a year or so after the move, and they just don't have that kinda gear around here. If they do carry anything Michigan, they carry the Wolverines. Thanks for sharing this!
