Mighty Mini Tiller...
By Steve Collier onMy mother is the world's worst when it comes to seeing something on TV that she likes and "Just has to have...", even though her age won't let her use some of the things she buys... I think she has every hand held kitchen appliance ever made that was advertised on TV, so it was really no surprise when the Mantis Tiller arrived... I had seen it advertised on TV for a while, and was asking myself how long it would be before "Ma" ordered one... She used it a couple of times and decided it was too much work for her, so she said I could use it anytime I wanted...
You have to understand that I live in an area notorous for its' red clay, so I was sceptical when I first picked up the 20 lb. wonder, and proceded to work up some flower beds around her home... The 2 cycle engine was amazeingly powerful, and its' size and light weight made it very manuverable around the existing plants... And the dirt that was tilled was powder fine when I was finished...
Then I decided to try it setting out some trees and shrubs...( This was the real test...Red Clay) Without useing a shovel, I was able to dig the wholes for some 3 to 5 gallon plants in just a matter of minutes... I was amazed how easy it made the job for me !!! Any serious landscaper or flower gardener will want one of these... Its' that good !!!

I love my Mantis! It is a Godsend when dealing with heavy clay soils. I love the way it creates neat and tidy border beds in a short time and yet uses relatively little of its fuel.
I have seen this on tv. Thanks for the information wonder how it really worked.
Love your description about your mum, I think we mothers or most mothers are like that. Thanks for sharing that info.
I'd love to have one of these but I definitely can't afford $300....glad it works for you.
You are so right-your true test was using it on the red clay!!!! It sounds like it's working great for you (& your mom!)!
ove these mentioned features: cycle engine was powerful, light weight made it very manuverable around the existing plants... And the dirt that was tilled was powder fine, these are enough for me to give this machine a thumbs up.
The Mantis works great in New England too - flower beds are super easy and you don't have to pull out the huge rotatiller for all of your garden needs we just pull out our Mantis and weed down the ailes for a quick touch up!
