Milton Bradley Hungry Hungry Hippos Game
By cnt24 onMilton Bradley Hungry Hungry Hippos is a fun, frantic marble strategy game. For children 4 years of age and 2-4 players, this little game does more than you would think.
The game comes with a play board with marble launchers, four hungry hippos, 20 plastic marbles, and appliqus to assign your hippos names. Everything fits nicely in the Hungry Hungry Hippo box for storage.
Of course we're all familiar with the game. You can play one of two ways, either free-play or launch play. For free-play you toss the marbles in the play tray and try to gobble as many as you can. For launch play, you launch the marbles one by one into play. Either way the player with the most marbles at the end is the winner.
I mentioned this game does more than it seems. I've found it teaches eye/hand coordination: You have to watch the marbles and wait for the perfect opportunity to grab them. You get double duty on this when you opt to launch play.
This game also teaches counting perception. You can only hold 5 marbles in your launcher so you have to count the marbles individually to load them. You also have to count your marbles to determine who wins.
This is quite a noisy game. Generally, the construction quality is average for what it is. I feel at some point the clips holding the game unit together will give. Fortunately, we purchased our Hungry Hungry Hippo game on sale--the retail price is 19.99. I wouldn't pay full price for it. If you can find it on sale, then go for it.

I loved this game as a kid! Is it horrible that I never buy these games for my kids, b/c I hate keeping up with the parts!
I know I would have absolutely loved this game as a kid!
This is one of the greatest games of all time! Though agreed that it is a little noisy, the fun makes it worthwhile.
It was my favorite game as a young kid. It is nice that they still are selling the game.
We had the reavel version and were on an international flight where my son (then 4) played with these two elderly men who didn't speak english but the three of them had a wonderful time palying! LOL
Sometimes just a little strategy is really good for young children to begin to understand how to make the rules of any game work in your favor.
My youngest sister had this game and we had a lot of fun. It is a loud game too and if you're too crazy, you can lose a marble or two. But it does teach hand/eye coordination like you mentioned. Thanks
Oh.. I remember that game, my sister had it like 30 years ago.. it was fun.
