Mirena Contraceptive Is It As Good As The Pill? By April on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
When my sister first told me that she was going to ask about getting an IUD from her doctor, I thought that would be so much easier than remembering to take a small pill every day. So on my next appointment, I asked my doctor what he thought of Mirena, one of the leading IUDs on the market. He told me he is behind it 100% for the following reasons. First, it is 99.9% effective against pregnancy. Second, you do not have to rely on taking a birth control pill everyday at the same time to prevent pregnancy. Third, it lasts for five years. And fourth, it has only a few of the side effects of a birth control pill.
I thought I would give it a try, especially since my insurance would pay for it. I watched the DVD the doctor gave me, which also outlined how effective the IUD was. It claims to be as effective as sterilization. So far so good for me! Since I had problems taking my pill everyday, I had no problem with throwing them out for something that would last me five years. And, since my pills always made me nauseated and bloated, the IUD does not. I also do not have any bleeding during the month, which is common with IUD use. On one note, IUDs do no protect against STDs, which the company states a few times.
In my opinion, this is the best thing a woman of child-bearing age can use for protection against unwanted pregnancies!

I have never heard of this IUD. Not sure what the stands for however I am going to look it up now.
I will keep this in mind, I hear you on that pill thing! :-)
My daughter had this put in a few months ago and it fell out last week. I had to be replaced. So far, so good. I hope yours works out better. Nice job!
