Mom's Home Cooking

Anyone who knows me isn't surprised that I have a neon sign hanging in my kitchen.I like "different" things, and it fits with my personality, and humor.

When I moved into my last house in 1988, I wanted something nostalgic-looking as part of my kitchen decor.On a trip to Portland, Oregon I found Habromania, a store full of neon light art. Some neon they sell is from a neon school in the area, (yes, there's a school!), but much of the neon is vintage, or custom made.So anyway, I was looking for that special "something", and if I should see it, I'd know that was "it"!Inside Habromania, my eyes were treated to a spectacular neon art show!From all of this, I had to make my choice.The search didn't last for long.Right there, hanging in front of me, was a neon sign in red that simply stated, "Home Cooking".That's IT!Wrap it up; I'll take it home!

After I brought my new neon sign home, I mounted the transformer, and wired the glass sign through eye-hooks right over my kitchen sink.With a flip of the switch I turned on my "Home Cooking" sign!It looked bright, and warm, and RED; reminiscent of the old diners I remember as a child.It's unique, and it's ME!

When we built the home we're in now, I actually decorated around my neon sign.I put alittle 50's flair throughout the kitchen, and right there above my kitchen sink... my "Home Cooking" neon sign is still bright, and warm, and red!!
