Moon Sand
By donnabc onAt my son's insistance, he spent his allowance ($6.00) on 2 tubs of moon sand at Target. He got a small tub (about the same amount as a playdough container) of blue and one of green. The sand does in fact stick together and does not dry out just as advertised. It can be molded into shapes and played with much like wet sand can.HOWEVER, it is very messy.Whereas playdough can be played pretty much anywhere in our house, moon sand is ONLY used in the kitchen where we have hard wood floors.Like wet sand, it tends to crumble and get all over everything even when the kids (or adults) are careful. It costs at least 3 times as much as playdough. If you want something different, give it a try.But on-going, I recommend sticking with good old fashioned play dough:0)

My son got some for Christmas and I have been avoiding opening it up! So far, so good :-)
I bought this Moonsand for my grandson for Christmas and we love it. We have the same sand in my Sped room and the children cannot get enough time playing with it. To keep down the mess, I bought a heavy duty, solid color shower curtain to set the sand and mold on. My grandson and I have more fun playing with it. Sorry you had a bad experience with it. You did a nice job sharing your opinion. I am voting for you!
My daughter keeps seeing this on TV and asking for it. I have avoided it until now and I think I am glad that I have. Thanks for the warning.
Sounds messy! Thanks for sharing your experience with this product.
Like Geri, I used a tarp of some kind-usually one of hubby's canvas paint cloths. The boys loved it and for us at least, it cleaned up much faster than Playdoh.
We are big Play Doh fans and have been wondering about Moon Sand. Thanks for your honesty, we will be avoiding the moon sand and sticking to our favorite!
I was wondering how messy this would be, thanks for the info.
We have a Moon Sand playkit, and yes, it is messy. The fun part of is is using the molds... press the sand and it comes out in fun shapes. It's like building sand castles on the beach with a bucket... The sand alone would not be quite as entertaining.
I've been scared to buy this for just that reason....
Not a fan of this sand.
