Moosewood Cookbook Yummy, Healthy, Vegetarian By Bosoxy on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
I do not own, or use, many cookbooks, but Moosewood…. It is just something special.
The first thing that I noticed when I opened the cover is that the cookbook is printed in a style that looks hand written. I just REALLY like the rustic look of it!
I also noticed that the book is written for people of all levels of cooking. There are some tips, tricks and how tos for those who may not have worked with certain foods in the past.
The recipes are very healthy and vegetarian, but you know what… if no one told you, you might not even notice! Seriously, the soup section is one of my favorites and I am not missing the meat in any of them! But if you want it, you can add it! The flavor combinations are so delicious and appealing that your family would never guess that they are eating healthy, nutritious food.
I should note that while the cookbook is vegetarian, she does use milk, cheese, butter and eggs. You need to use some of these ingredients to make those famous Moosewood brownies! These brownies are totally out of this world!!!! I am not a baker, but when I do bake, my frequent favorite to make is these brownies as they always go over well! It takes a bit longer to make these brownies than your traditional kind as the process is broken down into steps to really bring out the ingredients used into something that you could never get out of a box…. You should trust me on this! Or better yet, pick up a copy of the Moosewood Cookbook and make some yourself!

This sounds like a good cookbook!! WHAT?! You don't own any cookbooks?!
I love the restaurant and I love this cookbook. I don't own it, but have several recipes copied from it. The butternut squash soup is to die for. The restaurant is in Ithaca, NY (home of Cornell University), and is everything an eastern Ivy League college town should be, complete with cozy eateries wedged into vintage brick buildings. But if you want to eat at the Moosewood, it's always crammed and sometimes has a waiting line, so allow plenty of time. Oh, yeah, and driving in Ithaca is for the brave. I grew up 20 miles from there. It's a good place to park and walk!
I love cookbooks and this one is a must have. ;)
