Reviewing: Motorola Razr V3
Purchased at: Wireless Wave     Price: $100.00 CAD

Before Christmas of this year, I was browsing for presents for family members. I came across a Virgin Mobile console at a Wireless Wave store. While having a look at the phones I noticed that the Motorola Razr V3 was on sale. I had heard quite a few good things about this phone and was intrigued. After speaking with the sales associate at the store and hearing about the different plans Virgin Mobile Canada had available, I decided to purchase the phone.

After a brief and quite simple setup experience over the phone with a Virgin representative (done in-store), I topped up my phone with some cash and left the store. I began browsing through the Downloads on Virgin Mobile's LIVE service, and downloaded a couple of ringtones, some games and some wallpaper images in no time flat. The phone is able to play MP3 ringtones and the quality is great.

I do quite a bit of text messaging and this phone is perfect for it. The only reason I took a point off for "Keyboard" is because I noticed that pressing the right arrow on the circular pad sometimes results in hitting the red button (which is used to hang up a call), prompting a menu to come up asking if you want to cancel the message. I don't find it happens often enough to discourage text messaging at all, however.

The sound quality on this phone seems fairly standard; I do find the highest volume level more than sufficient, even in loud conditions. I have also used speaker phone a few times, and upon having a conversation with someone they told me they didn't even notice I had them on speaker phone, which is clearly a good thing as well. Also, the voice activated commands that the phone employs are an excellent feature which works very well -- all of this coupled with a Bluetooth headset ensures the best handsfree operation experience I have had with a cellular phone.

This phone coupled with the Motorola Phone Tools software allows you to add your own custom MP3 ringtones and photos, add contacts from your computer's address book, and more. Overall, this is an extremely functional phone for the price and I would recommend it to anyone who isn't worried about having the newest, flashiest phone on the market. The Razr V3 is obviously heralded for being thin and light, and I have found that the phone takes up no space in my pocket and is extremely easy to hold onto for even extended periods of time while talking.
