Motorola Surfboard 5101, A Great Cable Modem. By YodaGoneMad on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
I purchased my SB5101 a while back to avoid paying the modem rental fee from my service provider. Setting it up was a snap, just unplugged the rented modem and plugged my new one in. Gave my ISP a call and they set it up right then. My new SB5101 was just as fast as my old modem, if not faster, and much more reliable. My old modem used to freeze and get very slow if i had too many connections open, but my new SB5101 can handle 1000+ connections with ease and never miss a beat. Plus, i save around $6 per month off my bill, so in the first year i payed off my modem, and now save money every month. The SB5101 does not suffer from any performance degredation found in some network equipment, i have had mine running for over a year without every rebooting and it is still as fast as the first day i plugged it in. In the end, i would recomend buying a SB5101 to anyone who is using a cable internet connection and plans to keep it for the forceable future. You can save money by not continuing to rent, and you will probably end up with a better modem and faster connection.
Motorola SB5101 Purchased at: Walmart Price: $60

My son keeps telling me that I need to buy a modem instead of renting it from the cable company, but I keep putting it off.....Maybe i should reconsider his advice......Thanks for sharing the information.
Good to know that they really do last long enough to make it worth the purchase.
Everybody is telling me that motorola modem is good, will surely check this out myself. Thanks for sharing the info
I didn't realize these were so reasonably priced, I could have saved a lot of money by purchasing instead of renting monthly through my provider. I'll have to look into this, thanks for the recommendation.
