The Scientific Atlantic cable modem that Time Warner cable company gave me when I signed up for Roadrunner kept dropping my internet connection, sometimes for hours at a time. After doing some research online, I discovered that's a sign that the cable modem needs to be replaced.

I decided to buy my own cable modem, one that had a good reputation for speed and reliability. So I did a lot more research to find out what the best cable modem was. Not all cable modems will work well with Roadrunner, and Roadrunner supplies a list of approved cable modem models. The Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem was not only approved for use in the Roadrunner network, it also had the best reviews for speed and reliability. I bought the Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem from Amazon for about $80 and I love the design of it. The Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem is capable of up to 30mbps upstream capacity if I want to upgrade my high-speed internet from the basic 784K package that I currently have. I've been using the Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem for about a year now, and I haven't had any problems with dropped connections, even when I'm talking on my VOIP, surfing my computer and playing my Xbox 360 all at the same time.
