Motorola Talkabout
By donnabc onWe purchased these handy radios to use at Busch Gardens a few years ago when we had season passes. For those of you who have never been there, their is an area built just for kids with all kinds of stuff to climb and crawl through (the land of the Dragons). It is HUGE.And I got to tell you after 2 or 3 times across that darn rope bridge or sliding down one of the slides, I am DONE!Luckily there are plenty of benches to relax on while your kids play :0)
But, unfortunately for MY kids I am paranoid. There are just too many bad people out there. So, we got these 2 way radios so that we could communicate with our littlest one (6 at the time) who did not have his own cell phone:0)
They are extremely durable.THey have been dropped, stepped on, sat on, etc and they still work. I'm not sure what range they do, but can tell you that they definately work WELL within a couple blocks of each other.
The only weakness I'll mention is that they are kind of on the heavy side and bigger then the average cell phone.

We have a set of Motorola walkie talkies. Not this model but very similar. Ours have 5 mile range. This works perfect because my teen likes to go to the park and walk; with them I can keep her within ears reach.
I had a set of these for my kids, they are great for calling them in from play if you live in the country like us ;)
I hear ya! I am one of those paranoid moms too! We also used to use these 2 way radios when my son was younger... I do not recall the brand name... and we used them up until one was misplaced. They are very handy!
