Mount Misery By Samuel Shem By halcamdad on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Mount Misery by Samuel Shem is the sequel or follow-up to The House of God. The young doctor has completed his internship and has now moved into residency training in psychiatry. Anyone that has had direct experience with inpatient psychiatry wards will definitely relate to the experiences depicted. The book is sometimes funny but at other times intensely sad. For some of my friends, it was an emotional roller coster throughout. I definitely felt the ups and downs, but wasn't dragged down like some people are. Reading about severely mentally ill patients can be very depressing. If you plan on reading this book, be prepared for its depressive nature. I thought it was quite good and an excellent follow-up to The House. All physicians and healthcare practitioners should read this book.
