Mt. Rushmore South Dakota By TKDDad on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

If you are driving through South Dakota, don't miss this awesome National Monument. The grounds are beautiful and well kept.

My parents took me here when I was about my son's age. Now I took my son here and he really enjoyed it. It is a great family vacation stop. It is fun and it opened my son to ask different questions about the Presidents, who they were and what they did.

There is a Presidential Trail around the front of the monument. It is a wooden pathway with lots of steps. It is somewhat easy to navigate is you are use to walking. My wife was didn't feel like walking the trail, so my son and I walked it ourselves. It was nice and it offered a different view of the monument. You walk at your own pace.

It was a little tiring though and after our walk we decided to go to the café and get a dish of ice cream.

There is also a visitor's center where you can watch a movie and learn different facts about the 4 Presidents honored on the Monument.

My final advice is to get here early. We got here about 9:00am, it was not crowded at all, but by the time we left at 12:00 it was packed with a line of cars waiting to get in.

That was very informative! This is somewhere I would love to take my kids when they are a little older.

This sounds so cool! I've always wanted to see it in "real life" instead of a Hitchcock movie!
