Music of the Heart
Directed by Wes Craven 1999Music of the Heart is based on a true story and is such an inspiring movie! Meryl Streep is wonderful playing the role of a single mother who works her way into an East Harlem school as a violin teacher. She is hired on as a substitute and ends up teaching for over ten years!
No one really believes that the underprivileged children from East Harlem can or will want to learn how to play the violin. The story that unfolds will capture your heart and provide wonderful violin music performed by children.
The program runs into financial trouble after ten years and is cut. That is when the community that has learned to believe in their children after seeing their success pitches in. The outcome of the community pulling together is a benefit concert that ends up being performed in Carnegie Hall of all places!
Truly, this is such a heart warming story with terrific acting roles by child actors and everyone else and such lovely music. It is a bit of a tear jerker in spots, but that always means it touches your heart which, to me, is the mark of a great movie.
