Golden Book's "My Big Dog" is my daughter's favorite story. This delightful hardbound book has the cutest illustrations!

The story is about a spoiled housecat named Merl, who one day discovers (to his horror) that his "people" have brought home a puppy. The good life as he knows it has definitely come to an end. The puppy won't leave him alone, and to make matters worse it keeps growing, and gowing until it becomes a large dog. He tries varies ways to get rid of the puppy. Nothing works. This is just too much for Merl. He decides the only thing left to do is to take his toy mouse and leave to find a new home. After trying various new homes (which are all worse than his situation back home) he gives up and crawls into a box in the rain. About this time his "big dog" comes and rescues him and brings him back home. Merl finally decides that he can be friends with this dog.

This book would make a wonderful gift for either a boy or girl. And the adult will actually enjoy reading it to the child.
