New Super Mario Bros. By Pc200 X By PC200X on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Mario is back in his first sidescrolling game since Super Mario World back in 1993. Does the ol' plumber still have what it takes?

The answer to that, happily, is yes! Nearly 15 years and he still knows how to make a good sidescrolling game. If you're a fan of past games, you know what to expect: Mario goes from level to level, hopping on enemies' heads and pelting them with fireballs on his quest to rescue the princess. The gameplay is deliciously nostalgic.

There are eight worlds in all, each one ending with a castle and a boss. Along the way you'll encounter Bowser's son Bowser Jr., who wants nothing more than to be a thorn in Mario's side.

The game is about the same difficultly level as other Mario games, but one thing that makes this game particularly easy is...you can skip two of the worlds. In fact, you have to find a way not to skip them if you want to complete the game 100 percent. Why the developers chose to do that, I don't know. But hey, I suppose it adds a bit of replay value, though having to earn a complete game is kind of a negative in my opinion.

All in all, New Super Mario Bros. is another amazing notch in Mario's belt. Hopefully we won't have to wait another decade and a half for another piece of gaming goodness like this one.
