Niaspan Lipitor A Cholesterol Fighting Team By BillF on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

I explained in my Lipitor review my history with Cholesterol lowering medicines. Niaspan is good team with Lipitor and a usual double team for dealing with Cholesterol. It generic is Niacin a B vitamin. It reduces Bad Cholesterol (LDL) and Increases Good Cholesterol (HDL). I had real issues no mater how much olive oil i used getting my good cholesterol high enough without Niaspan. It should not be taken with grapefruit juice or hot liquids. It has similiar major side effects to Lipitor with the addition of concerns if you are a diabetic. The more common side effects which I have experienced mild cases on occastion are flushing/tingly feel under skin and dizzyness. It tends to be more side effects than Liptitor so usually a doctor will start with Lipitor and if that does solve the problems then add Niaspan. Niaspan is usually slowly ramp up the dossage from 500 MG possibly up to 2000 MG. Males tend to need higher dossage and in my case 1500 MG seems like the best combination with 5MG of lipitor.
