Nintendo Gamecube By Digbybare By digbybare on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The Gamecube is Nintendo's successor to the N64. It is a huge improvement over the N64, but still not enough to bring Nintendo to the dominant position it had in the SNES era.

Physically, like usual, it is very tough. This is the first Nintendo to use disc media rather than cartridges. It, like the N64, has 4 controller ports.

The controller is an improvement over the N64, but has its own unique flaws. Basically, it is copied from the Dual Shock, however, the D-Pad and analog stick are switched. The biggest problem is that the buttons are very strangely positioned. Instead of the tried and true diamond positioning of the 4 main buttons, Nintendo decided to create a huge A button with the other buttons encircling it. This makes for an awkward playing experience as you have to reach around the A to get to the other buttons. It is especially difficult, if in a fighting game for example, to press X and B at the same time.

The game selection is much like the N64, not huge, but it has some pretty respectable titles, most notably Super Smash Bros. Melee.
