Northern California's Largest Newspaper By Eggy on - Updated Sep 18, 2011

The San Francisco Chronicle is an entertaining newspaper which provides good coverage of the major events in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Though there have been staff cutbacks in recent years and a lot of the international news is provided by Associated Press and other services, there are still a number of columnists and news people who give the paper a unique personality.

The weekend happenings section (96 Hours) is very good. Tim Goodman is a funny television critic. There are informative articles on food, wine, and restaurants. I like restaurant critic Michael Bauer.

Willie Brown a former California Assemblyman and ex-Mayor of San Francisco has a column about once a week. Matier & Ross do a lively local interest column. The Chronicle is very active in sponsoring area charitable and community events.

The only thing that disturbs me about the Chronicle is that previously (years ago) the main stories from the front page used to be continued on the back page of the front section, and now there are advertisements there.

The related website Sfgate.com is very good. You should check it out, and if you think you know a better newspaper website then post it in the comments to this review.

I really like the San Francisco Chronicle. It is my hometown newspaper.

I check out the online version often and will be heading out to SF this June. I can't wait!
