I got the Norton AntiVirus 2008 with Antispyware at the beginning of this year (2008). I got it at WalMart for right around $40.00. It is good for the whole year of 2008. It works on Windows Vista and Windows XP. It includes antispyware, antivirus protection, detects and removes viruses, blocks spyware automatically, and prevents virus-infected emails from spreading. Sounds great, right? That's what I thought! Too bad it slowed my computer down so much that it was nearly unusable.
Although the box claims that it has improved performance that delivers an enhanced online experience, I'd hate to see what it was like before it was "improved"! It made everything that I did SO SLOW. Which is very frustrating. Just starting my computer with the Norton AnitVirus installed would take at least 15 minutes to get everything running. Just ridiculous. Then trying to get my emails, oh my!! It would scan each and every one of them and it would take forever.
I just can't stress how much this slowed down my computer. It was really unbelievable. I finally un-installed it this month. I had enough! I only left it there for so long because I hated to basically throw something away that I had already paid for, but I couldn't take it anymore! I will now be looking for another way to protect my computer.

You are not the only one I've heard say that this slows down their computer....I wonder why that is?
I used Norton a few years ago and I hated them back then. SOunds like they haven't improved much
Try Avast and you will surely be happy.
Sounds like they have not inproved. We switch, but not sure of what we went with, Hubby does most of that stuff on our computer.
It slows down my computer too, very annoying but I just deal with it.
I heard people say this but it did not slow my computer down. Now it did take longer to set up when I turned the computer on in the mornings.
I had the same experience with Norton 07; up until then, it was OK, but that was the year I changed my security software. Same problems as you had. SLOW computer performance!
I've had only bad experiences with Norton as well.
That's why I don't used Norton. It slows down your computer a lot. I rather opt for AVG.
