Not So Universal Remote By Chocollette on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

I am already laughing as I review this value pack of remote controls because as my mom so eloquently used to tell me, "you get what you pay for" and that was definitely the case here! My husband and I were in the market for a universal remote and when shopping in Walmart, found a "value pack" of two remote controls for $14.96 (one remote is slightly smaller than the other and also has less functions than the bigger remote control). For the first remote, my husband had to go through three access codes to finally get the remote to work and with the smaller remote, he had to go through two access codes! I should have known that would have spelled trouble right then and there! The remotes actually do work well but horror of horrors, the remotes do not open either of our DVD players meaning that (oh my!) we have to actually WALK to the DVDs to manually open them and that is why I did not give this a perfect rating!

Most of the U-remote controlls are useless

does this stuff really have to be so difficult?

I know what you mean. We are so spoiled by having a remote for everything, that the journey to the controls is just too far. I enjoyed laughing with you on this one!

Nice warning on remotes. I hate it when their hard to get programmed right and then some functions still don't work.

It's so funny how we think we just can't live if we have to push a button on the machine instead of just sitting on our fannies! But we all do it.

Programing is the worst part. Finding a remote that can work all your sources is pretty rare!

I bought my elderly neighbours who lost their remote a universal remote, it took 8 access codes. They are extremely ambulatory at home, but kept teasing me about needing to get up to put discs or tapes in their DVD or VCR. I was told I fell down on the job, now I must invent a robot to do that for them.

I never dare to buy those remotes cos I am always worried whether they really works or not...so there you are...you becomes the remote since you need to walk to the DVD...lol
