Nothing Like The One I Used To Have! By jb_shops on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Before trying this unit, I had not used a radar detector in over five years. This weekend I was given an opportunity to try my buddy's Escort radar detector. It is hard for me to fully test this unit, but I can definitely compare this to my poor experience with my detector from yesteryear. Thankfully, there are also many good industry reviews with controlled lab tests.
Driving in the city, I experienced only a couple of false positives. No more beeping when you pass by the front door of the supermarket. It picked up the handful of speed-traps e.g. at underpasses.
Escort has been around a long time, and it seems like they own the whole market now. This detector picks-up X-band, K-band, Ka-band, and laser.
This has a very long cord, much better than my detector from yesteryear.
Would I buy this? $300 is a lot of money, but if I were going to buy one I would definitely buy an Escort brand detector. This one would definitely get my consideration.

This sounds like an excellent detector. While safe driving is paramount, I do get irritated by sppeding ticket quotas so I feel unfortunately these things are necessary. Especially if you have speed friendly cars like Porsches, Vipers or souped up mustangs:)
I love your "Please drive safely!" I'm not familiar with radar detectors but it sounds like this is better than what you previously had & it seems like it would be well worth the money.
Sounds like a good product, thanks for sharing.
I have always been curious about the effectiveness of such units. It sounds like this is a good model.
Sounds like a great radar detector. It seems like a quality product. Sometimes it you just need to forget about the price and consider the quality. Cheap is not always a bargain if the quality is bad.
This sounds about par for the course with false alerts. Those things are only as good as their technology. I used a few before I retired my old 280ZX--God I miss that car. This sound like a good gift for my Brother-in-law though.
Don't speed then you would not have to spend the $300.00. LOL This does sound like a very nice radar detector. Thanks for sharing.
$300 bucks is a bit pricey for a radar detector!
Sounds like a great radar detector. The one I had years ago would constantly give false readings, nice to know they've come a long way over the years. The price is a little on the high side but then again so are speeding tickets these days.
I wish I had had this when I got caught a few weeks ago! My work-to-home route becomes mundane and I got caught daydreaming to the tune of $195.00! I got it reduced to $150.00, but still..... and that was my very first ticket in thirty years of driving : (
