Nyquil, reverse effects?

Nyquil Nightime Cold Medicine
I am probably the only person who has this problem but I wanted to share.I tried Nyquil for a cold.I needed to get some sleep because I had an important meeting the next day that i could not miss.So I am miserable with a head cold and I take Nyquil.
It kept me up all night, I was wired.I couldn't sleep, I couldn't even lay down.I was extremely jumpy and nervous. And what's worse? It didn't even help with my cold symptoms.I was still miserable and I couldn't rest.
I still made my meeting the next day but I was tired and jumpy at the same time.I know for a fact that I will never use Nyquil again, unless I need to stay up late for some reason.Even then though I don't think i could tolerate the jumpiness again.

Thats interesting. It makes me groggy and I sleep but wake up a million times. Nice of you to put the warning out there, I'm sure there are a lot more people that this happens to.
There is actually a small percentage of people (I think around 10%ish) who have reverse effects to sleeping aids and their complaints are most notable with Nyquil. Oftentimes it's paired with being sensitive to having reverse effects to caffeine (it puts them to sleep).
I have had the same experience with NyQuil, and was told by a doctor that there is indeed a significant percentage of people who have this reaction, and that it really involves an entire class of drugs. I'll tell you it's made me really leery of any medications that I've never tried before. Doctors just don't seem to pay attention to people who aren't average.
Wow, I've never heard of it keeping you up. My husband always keeps a supply of Nyquil handy and takes it at the first sign of a cold. The house could burn down around him and he would not move.
Funny how things work so differently on different people, sorry this did not work for you!
You are not alone in your reaction to NyQuil. My hubby loves the stuff, I can't take it.
Nyquil would let me sleep for about 2 hours and then I would be completely wired. I did get relief from my cold symptoms, but was still miserable from lack of sleep.
I have had some family members that have the same problem with nyquil. Personally I dont really use it because it makes me feel completely out of it!
I was just talking about this same thing today! The same thing happened to me quite a few years ago. I totally cannot take Nyquil.
I get reverse effects when it comes to taking Nyquil too! I took it the other night hoping it would help me with my congestion and i figured i would be able to sleep, but I was up all night because of it instead. I have recently realized that i actually have reverse effects of drowsiness and alertness when it comes to most medicines. It is really bizarre.
