Ocean City, New Jersey bills itself as America's #1 Family Resort. This resort town really does appeal to a broad spectrum of people. It is located on one of the barrier islands on the southern New Jersey coast. It is about one hour from Philadelphia and less than 30 minutes from Atlantic City. It is appealing to families for it's wide, clean beaches and boardwalk. The boardwalk is about three miles long and has 2 amusement piers, lots of miniature golf, a water park, plus shopping and food stands. The boardwalk is open in the mornings for bike riding. It is a dry town, which makes it family friendly, but nearby towns offer bars and clubs for more adult nightlife. For accomodations, there are some hotels, but mostly home rentals. The rental season lasts from Memorial Day to Labor Day with home rentals anywhere from one week to a whole season. There is a big variation in prices based on distance to the beach, size and age of the house, and when in the season you are renting. Mid July through mid August are the most popular weeks and the most expensive. I wouldn't recommend Ocean City to young singles, but it definitely lives up to its billing for families.
