Ode For Intelligent Optimists By cnt24 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
Thanks to a forum post from a fellow SR member, Jessie, I won a subscription to Ode magazine. I've seen Ode before, but never thumbed through it. I have to say I am impressed and will get a paid subscription when the time comes.
The price for a subscription is $29.95 for one year (10 issues). The cover price is $4.95 an issue. From the inserts I found you can get deals like 10 issues for a friend at $2.99, which makes a nice gift. Online subscriptions are also available.
Ode magazine is printed on recycled paper. The paper quality is very good and a lot thicker than I would expect from other recycled paper products I've handled.
I love the layout. It is sectioned in categories like Commentary, Life, News, and tallied by "One last thing...". Another nice feature is the bulk of Ode is articles not fluffy ads. You will get your money's worth out of it.
Ode itself is about just what the title implies. It pays tribute to and highlights certian acts, individuals, or technologies; a feel-good magazine "for intelligent optimists".
I rated Size/Length a 4 because Ode left me wanting more. I guess that's a good thing? I wish it was a little longer (the October issue was only 80 pages).
Overall I give Ode 5 of 5. I cannot wait for my next issue!
