Office 2007, But Is It Better? By Kyrelth on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Office 2007 came preinstalled on my brand new laptop, but regularly retails for $499.99. Needless to say, if I had to pay for it, I'd stick with notepad because I dont think any software is worth that much. New features include these tabbed menus to replace the old drop downs. They are alot easier to spot the common functions because they tend to have picture icons with them, but if you're using something uncommon, you're going to have to dig, and they arent always obviously placed. One thing I do like is that right clicking on a document now gives you alot of formating options right at your fingertips, rather handy when making a spreadsheet "pop". Unfortunately the default save function is in the new file format, which users of the older software cant open. This can be changed, but its a bit of an annoyance to start out with. The programs seem rather stable and they have added alot more description to dialog boxes and help tags. Not worth the list price, but if you can get it included with a new computer, worth a little extra.
