One Summer In Between
By Gayle Parks onA classic story about the human condition and how we all have the same basic needs. We all need to be appreciated for who we are and loved for the good that is in us. One Summer In Between is the story of a young black woman...a student...from the South who spends the summer with a white family in Vermont. She actually works for them as a housekeeper and is paid for her sevices as cook, cleaning lady and babysitter. She expects to be treated rudey at worst or as an employee at best. She does, indeed, meet up with a few bad manners but much to her surprise she becomes like one of the family instead. She finds that the "North" is definately different from the "South" but, alas, does still present some of the same old prejudices. I won't devulge the entire story and I hope I have piqued your interest enough to search for this book. I think you will find it a very engaging and meaningful story. It is old and possibly out-of-print so be sure and check your local library. Also, it might be available as a used copy on the regular on-line sites. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Albris, etc.

PA I'll check Amazon. They can usually get a copy of older books. I definitely want to read this. In fact, I don't know how I missed this one, as the premise is one of my personal favotites.
