One Touch Can Opener By Rae777 By Rae777 on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

One Touch Can Opener is a can opener that you put on the can, press the button and it opens the can by itself. It's advertised to cut the lid off in such a manner that the lid is not sharp. The lid is not sharp but the can edges are now sharp. Another concern is that when it takes that lid off it also takes off the rim so you have to be careful with some cans because they can become very weak. Also when I try to open a very small can of tomato paste the can opener got caught on the can and had to be pried loose. You have to keep fresh batteries in this so that it does not quit working while you are using it.

I have mixed feelings about this can opener. When it works it's extremely handy but sometimes I had to fight to get the cans to start opening. I think it may be time to invest in good durable can opener.

I have used an opener that rimmed the cans like this. The edges can be as sharp as the lids of the hand twist type. Thanx for the heads up.

I've had two of these and had trouble with both. I think they make the lid edges sharper too -- ouch! I just got a good hand-cranking one at Williams Sonoma (pricey, but well-made) and it has given me no problems!

This has also happened to my mother-in-law so now she just uses a hand can opener since it's more reliable!

I think I'll stick to my manual hand can opener.

I would be wary about the sharp can edges, it is easy to cut yourself since normally you are not worried about them being shap, it's the lid that you pay attention to. We have a Pampered Chef can opener (not powered though) that leaves no sharp edges at all.

Wow I like the sound of this can opener.

I too have had 2 of these and ended up throwing them away. Not only did I get a nasty deep cut, they failed more often than not.

I've tried this too. It's okay, but it does seem to eat up batteries. And I think it works better on cans with a small diameter: it's really slow on the bigger cans.
