Our Mutual Friend, Mini Series By Rancosto on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

Our Mutual Friend, filmed in 1998, is based on a novel by Charles Dickens. This BBC mini-series is excellent. I have always said that the BBC knows best how to film English classics, and this series proves it once again. The story is too complex to re-tell here, besides, re-telling will spoil the fun. I will just say that the plot involves murder, arranged marriage, romance, attempted murder, sudden riches, switched identities, more romance, jealousy, obsession, another attempter murder... Are you intrigued yet? I hope you are! This story truly has it all.

Keely Hawes is a pleasure to watch as the beautiful, kind, poor but noble-hearted Lizzie Hexam. Anna Friel plays Bella Wiffer, a practical young woman determined to be rich who eventually finds out what really matters in life - thankfully, when it is not too late. My personal favorites are Peter Vaughan and Pam Ferris as Mr. and Mrs. Boffin, this couple is so touching in their simple-hearted honesty. I could go on and on praising all the actors involved, they all did a great job, creating one of the best period pieces I've seen.
