These OXO Good Grips 12" tongs have many uses around the kitchen. I have three sizes (9, 12, and 16 inch); the 12 inch are the most versatile.
They are great for grilling, frying, removing things from boiling water. The 16 inch ones are particularly good for the barbecue.
The locking feature is very useful, and can be operated with one hand - There never seem to be enough hands in the kitchen. Unlock it by hitting it on your hip, lock it by holding it in your hand and moving the lock with your fingers.
Since they lock closed, they are easy to lay in a drawer or you can use the hole in the handle to store on a hook.
The handles are nonslip cushioned and the tongs are dishwasher safe.
These tongs may not be as good as traditional scissor tongs for breaded items (such as fried chicken) - and chopsticks still have their place in cooking.
OXO Good Grips Tongs are quite good quality. There are knock off versions you might find at flea markets or low cost stores.

Use them at least every other day. I'm not too good at the one handed lock but great tool good write
