Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Processor
By Amy Nil onThe Pentium 4 3.2 GHz Processor was part of my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop. This is a desktop processor that ended up in a laptop, which was a huge mistake on the part of Dell. There were multiple reports of this computer overheating, and I never used my laptop without placing it on a desk or other solid surface. The fans were constantly running despite constant cleanings of the dust from the fans, and the processor would actually run slower because due to overheating. In addition, it always sounded like a jet engine was running in the room that the laptop was in.
Before my 4-year warranty expired, I had the hard drive, optical drive, and motherboard replaced.About one month after the warranty expired, the processor finally died.
If you ever see this processor in a laptop, beware! It runs hot as can be and makes life a pain.

I did a lot of research on processors before I bought my latest computer, and just about everyone said that the p4 like this were not good at all. Thats why I normally went with AMD ones. But if you are looking around for a new one, you should probably check on the intel dual and quad cores. They finally fixed a lot of the problems and put out a better product than AMD.
I think that the issue was more than with just the processor, especially with all of those repairs! Dell has had some serious issues. I have a 5 year old Toshiba laptop with a P4 2.8ghz processor that does not run hot... the fans run sometimes, when needed, and are not loud when they do. My son, on the other hand, had a Toshiba with an AMD and it was a complete lemon.... He had just about everything replaced, motherboard, screen, hinges - twice, fans - twice, battery, power pack... not sure about anything else... and that thing sounded like an airplane with loud fans... He has since replaced it with an iMac.
Wow, I can't believe hat happened! I am sorry to hear that!
They say quad cores are best although I have a AMD dual corfe and it works pretty good.
I'm glad you put this up. My high school had us to use dell laptops with these processors and after 3 years we all had to get new laptops due to half of them overheating, which basically made the school lose a lot of money
I got a p4 3.2 in a "back of the house"box I bought from OfficeMax when they closed their doors, it ran iffy, not bad, the Mboard died last week and replaced with similar amd, now I've got diff probs! but still able to nav.
You think by now in this day and age the computer companies would have this all figured out! Great warning for consumers!
As per my knowledge, P4 is for desktop. It is really weird. Thanks for your advice. It will help many who wants to buy a new laptop.
The problem is not the processor or the laptop itself. Its simply that laptops are designed to use less power than a desktop. So having an incompatiable desktop processor in a laptop will cause the laptop to overheat and run slow. My desktop P4 3.2Ghz Ran at 3.6Ghz flawlessly for 5 years before I upgraded to my Q9550.
