Personal Alarm By janbubears on - Updated Sep 18, 2011
While out walking with my wonderful two jack russell dogs, i was increasingly getting frightened and a bit nervous when i approached the more secluded areas within our local park. I had read in the local newspaper that unfortunate people had been mugged and attacked for as little as a mobile phone, all this happened within the same areas that i walked on a daily basis. I decided as opposed to letting the thugs win by me avoiding the park altogether - i would purchase a personal alarm. The wardens which are stationed at a small complex within the park would be able to hear my alarm if it was high pitched and quite loud when activated. I began by looking on e bay and found a personal alarm made by Lloyds pharmacy at a cost of just £4.99 and the postage was free. I was very impressed when my alarm arrived in the post, it was quite small but very effective. It has a pull cord activation strap, and also an immediate panic button to press instantly. There is also a light/torch built in. I now attach my alarm to my belt or coat by the clip function on the alarm. Its battery operated and requires 2 x AAA batteries. When i activated the alarm to test it, it was very loud and high pitched. An absolute overall bargain and i now feel so much safer when out walking my dogs. The alarm could also be used within the home, you can attach the string pull cord to any door handle and if the door is opened it will activate the alarm. The same could be used on a window latch or similar.
