My husband has at least five different medications he is on at one time. Many times on his checkups the doctor needs to make changes in the amount of the dose he is taking. When my husband's doctor recently cut back on some of his heart medication, we had to split the pills he had left over. They are too expensive to waste! I was cutting them with a knife, but a lot of times the pills would end up getting split unevenly or small pieces would break off. Not to mention the pieces that would shoot off onto the floor that I worried the dogs would find before I did!

One day we were in the dollar store and my husband found this pill cutter for only a dollar! It is made of plastic with a small blade in the center and a V guide that helps get the pill in the correct position. The top part with the blade is hinged to the bottom and cuts cleanly through the pill will very little effort.

This is probably one of the simplest objects we own, but it's worth it's weight in gold.
