Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World's End By Seraph By Seraph on - Updated Oct 15, 2011

The final movie in the epic trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 did not quite live up to its predecessors in my opinion. POTC 3 seemed to attempt too much to be the grittiest one out of the bunch. While the swashbuckling action and innuendo kept me enthralled from start to finish, there were quite a few moments where I had thoughts of “Did they actually just do that?”

In this movie, the crew of the Black Pearl is determined to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow from the horrors of Davy Jones' Locker, and to bring the Brethren's Court into session. They rescue him fairly early into the movie, and the rest is an elaborate maze of lies and deception among each character in the movie, as everyone tries to get the upper hand on the others.

As I mentioned earlier…the “eew” factor is high in this one. The very first scene of the movie is of a mass execution by hanging…and the focus is on a young boy who seems to ring lead it. The swordfights are full of strange deaths…an eel-man chews on the head of his opponent…Davy Jones kills a man by embedding his own tentacles into the face and body of a man…

Personally, while I highly enjoyed the movie, the gore made me rethink another viewing of it anytime soon. It's definitely a good movie, but it's just a sudden dark turn from the lighthearted humor of the earlier movies.

As for the DVD itself, I was rather disappointed in the lack of extras. Only the typical ones were included: a blooper reel (that really wasn't very funny), some deleted scenes, and a commentary. If ever there was a blatant "Buy the special edition to get the interesting extras" ploy, this was it.
