Playhouse: The Cottage By KimsSharedReviews on - Updated Oct 15, 2011
When I first saw this playhouse at Sam's Club I knew we needed to own it! My daughter worked on my husband to get it and finally in October of 2006 we made the purchase.
It was a pain to get home just because of the sheer size of the playhouse, but we knew that. Once we got home, it only took about 5 hours for the two of us to get it up. I wish now we had spent more time on getting the ground perfectly level as once it is in its place really you cannot move it.
This house is GORGEOUS!! Everyone talks about it. It is 9'9" wide, 10'5" deep and 7'4" tall. This is truly a FULL size playhouse and it is great because even adults can go in and enjoy it. We had been looking for a cheaper playhouse, but so many of the littler ones were just going to be too small for my five year old daughter. There are four doors to make access easy. The window boxes and bay windows add to the charm of this cottage. There is a window seat that can be used like a toy box and that can be used in either one of the bay windows.
It really is quality, the biggest disappointment is that we got hit with a hail storm and every seem in the roof was broken because of it. I made several calls and e-mails to the company to try to buy a new roof and never have gotten a response. We will figure something out and it isn't a huge deal, but a big disappointment because it is such an expensive item.
But if you are looking for a big playhouse this is an affordable option. And when the kids are done playing in it, it will become a nice shed.
Thinking Outside The Cottage Purchased at: Sam's Club Price: $1800.00

I can see the beauty of it and I fully understand why you would love it. Heck, I'm tempted for the beauty of it, but $1800 is out of line for an item with a shoddy roof. Shame on the manufacturer and thanks for the warning.
That is an absolutely beautiful playhouse! I agree with RoseHill that the manufacturer should have done something for you... This is an outdoor mini-home so the roof should have been built as such... I could understand some damage from a hailstorm but what you described should not have happened.
Anybody out there have one of these houses for sale at a good price? I am willing to pay for shipping even though it will be quite expensive. Please e-mail sonyascott at charter dot net
The company that makes this playhouse, Thinking Outside, has gone out of business. We fixed our roof fabulously w/good 'ol duct/duck tape. I went to Ace Hardware & bought their top grade duct tape (Gorilla tape) & then bought some brown duct tape to cover over the black tape, so it would blend in w/the roof. (Home Depot doesn't sell diff colors duct tape). It works like a charm. No leaks in our seams anymore. Most likely, the seams split due to pressure from uneven settling, that's why ours split & that's why the instructions really stress that the playhouse works best on a concrete foundation. (to the other commentor, I've seen these for sale from time to time on eBay).
Really such a great outdoor stuff but kind of pricey.. As to the roof, maybe you just make your own.. But sturdy one than the manufacturer.. :)
i know this was bought a long time ago (as was ours) but would anyone by any chance still have the upc# or sams club item # for this item?? did you perhaps keep your receipt since it was such a big purchase? thanks for your time!! need help!!!!!!!!
